CAMEDIA C-40ZOOM - The Four Megapixel Sensation from Olympus
|
Cutting-edge technology inside a seductively designed compact
form
|
Olympus arouses wonder and amazement
once again with its latest CAMEDIA model. The C-40ZOOM delivers a
multitude of innovative digital photo functions behind an
irresistible exterior - at an equally alluring price. This
compact, high-resolution camera fulfils more than the highest
expectations and is set to become the undisputed camera star for
the autumn/winter season. Olympus masterfully accommodates
state-of-the-art photo technologies in an extremely efficient
form. Both beautiful and ergonomic, the camera's aluminium-fronted
body is so small it can almost hide behind a credit card and fits
effortlessly in every shirt or trouser pocket. With the
high-quality four megapixel CCD chip and 2.8x optical zoom (plus
2.5x digital zoom), this model introduces a new dimension of
photographic performance into this compact class. And that's not
all. To bring the sensational shooting quality of the C-40ZOOM up
to the next level, Olympus includes diverse image optimisation
processes, such as pixel mapping and a noise reduction function.
The C-40ZOOM utilises a sensitive 1/1.8 inch four million pixel
CCD to capture the images. Despite its compact dimensions, this
model incorporates a 2.8x zoom lens (equivalent to 35-98 mm on a
35 mm camera). When combined with the seamless 2.5x digital zoom,
the user can enjoy a maximum zoom capability of 7x (for an
equivalent focal length of 245 mm) - and this with a camera that
measures just 87 (w) x 68.5 (h) x 43.5 (d) mm, weighing only 190 g
(without batteries).
The technical capabilities are equally breathtaking. In
addition to the automatic mode for effortless shooting, this
compact performer offers many manually-adjustable functions so
that even the most difficult lighting situations yield superb
results. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with a pixel mapping
function. This new technology - which has already been employed in
the Olympus flagship SLR, the E-10, and the C-4040ZOOM -
automatically calibrates the CCD chip and ASIC processor. Pixel
mapping produces even sharper contrast, brighter colours and fewer
image errors.
The C-40ZOOM also demonstrates its technical prowess when
shooting with extended-exposure times. The number of coloured
spots which often occur in the very dark areas of an image
(referred to as noise) - particularly in low light shots - are
significantly reduced by the noise reduction function developed by
Olympus. When printing in large formats, the C-40ZOOM maintains
top quality by intelligently recalculating the image data. The
camera increases the resolution up to 3,200 x 2,400 pixels.
The photographer can also shoot more than still images. The
C-40ZOOM captures video sequences with sound in the QuickTime
Motion JPEG format (up to about 130 sec. in SQ mode). Both short
movies and still shots can be reviewed on the LC-Display at the
back of the camera immediately after saving.
The C-40ZOOM is incredibly user-friendly. Its optimised
graphical user interface features a well-structured menu so the
photographer easily finds the desired functions. Downloading image
files from the camera to PC is quick and uncomplicated thanks to
the USB port with AutoConnect* capabilities. This automatically
recognises the C-40ZOOM as an external drive and displays it as
such in the file manager or on the desktop.
The ultra-compact C-40ZOOM has universal appeal. It offers a
smart design accented by a classy aluminium front, a
high-resolution four megapixel CCD and the latest in digital
imaging technology. This model is destined to be one of the most
desired cameras of the next season and an innovation that
reinforces Olympus' leading position in the European digital
camera market.
* Supported with Windows 98 or later. (The Windows 98/SE
operating systems require the USB AutoConnect (Storage Class)
driver which is supplied with the camera.) Supported with MacOS
8.6 or later. (MacOS 8.6 requires USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5
from Apple.)
